Fishing in far away lands

Due to the influenza I must have brought back from Argentina, I just haven't felt up to writing this blog. It's been two weeks today since I fished in a very distant beautiful land. Tuesdady, 5/1/07, was Argentina's labor day holiday. Since the Motorola offices were closed , I felt obligated to explore the land and fly fish. Yep, I brought all my fishing gear with me, waders, boots, and all.

The CREW!
I was fortunate to find someone in the office with a little fly fishing experience. I remember being at his skill set not too long ago. He took my coworker and I (AKA the GRINGOS) to a place called San Miguel de los Rios. It located at S32.02.250, W064.45.673, elevation 3370ft. That nearly 6000 miles away, boys. Top that!

Although he (Omar) had been there before, he had never fished there, so it was virgin water to us all. After a long three hour drive south of Cordoba, we began driving on a dirt road for another 30+ minutes. Finially, we arrived at a locatioin with many private cabins. Of course we found the owner of a five cabin estate and asked permission to cross his land to the river. He was very nice, and even gave us directions to a good entry point. The lucky dog lives there year round.
Underwater... John said he thought the river looked a little steril. Nope, the only one steril is John.

This is Omar, the host, fishing away!

This is what down south they call "Trucha de Arco Iris" Rainbow trout!

The GPS fishing prediction called for excelleng fishing, and it was. The "langostas", spanish for grasshoppers, were thick. This was the fly of choice that hooked many a fish. I was fishing alongside Omar most of the time, which did slow me down a bit, but I still caught a plethora of Trucha de Arco Iris, Rainbow trout. We fished for about three hours. Poor Omar didn't catch a single fish. I felt so bad. He was a great host, and I wish he had caught at least something.
Most of the fish were small, ranging from 6 to 12 inches. Just take a look at the pics.
Aside from fishing, the whole trip there was awesome. I even got to go back up to my mission area.

From the hotel in Cordoba!
